Narra is a multi-application ecosystem rather than a single app: a web application, a desktop application, and a local processing layer that does the heavy work on the user's own machine.

The interesting engineering problem is the boundary. Creative media is large, private and slow to move, so the work that should stay local — decoding, analysis, transformation — stays local, while the work that genuinely benefits from the cloud goes out over the network. Getting that line in the right place is most of the product.

It also integrates with the tools photographers already live inside, including Lightroom, so the workflow meets people where they work instead of asking them to migrate.

What I did

  • Product architecture across web, desktop and local processing layers.
  • Desktop application engineering on Electron with a Node.js processing core.
  • Media pipeline work using FFmpeg and OpenCV for local analysis and transformation.
  • AI-assisted workflow design, balancing local processing against cloud inference.
  • Lightroom integration so the tool fits an existing creative workflow.
  • Web application frontend in Next.js.
